Halle-friggin’-lujah! Star Wars is coming out on DVD in its original version. All three of the first films are. I do not cringe when I admit that I have been holding onto a LaserDisc player, refusing to get rid of it because the only way to see the originals is on that ancient format. But now, away with it!
OOPS!
Well, sources just now told me that I should not be terribly happy yet. Really, I honestly can say no more than that, but it’ll become obvious once more details are released and once people have these DVDs in-hand. It seems George is fucking us all again. What is wrong with that man?

Yeah…I’m really tired of George taking all of my money. I have three copies of this trilogy. Two on VHS and one on DVD. I’m done spending money on him.

I have to say that if I didn’t have a friend who got me into see Episodes II and III and who got me all the movies, old and new, on DVD (I sold Eps. I through III to Amoeba a couple weeks ago… why waste the shelf space?) I would also be torn about whether to spend the money. I was talking with a guy at a party last week who ripped his LaserDiscs onto DVD, a project I’ve been meaning to do for a couple years. If the transfers of the originals to DVD is as bad as it sounds like it’s going to be, I may still do it, just to “be rebellious!”

Oh, John! While entirely true, that simplistic comment has nothing to do with the point. In fact, that must be the Lucasfilm stance: “It’s utter shit, but we’re not making anyone buy it.”
I won’t be buying them. I haven’t bought a Star Wars movie ticket or DVD set throughout this Dark Period. (Okay, I went to see Episode I, like, four times, only one of those for free.)
