Après Improv Chicks

Two weeks ago, I did an improv show. Another Cage Match, this time with a team I’d never improvised with before. I’d met Michael a couple times, and he invited me to do the show, but the other two people I’d never met in my life.

We had an okay show, but lost (the other team was very good). After the show, standing in the lobby of IO West, a girl came up to me and told me that I was very funny. It was a nice thing to have happen, especially since I wasn’t sure if I’d been any good at all.

I am mentioning this two weeks late for a reason. I was just going through all past Wren Forum posts in a project not worth mentioning (I’m attaching categories to everything so they can be browsed via yet another variable). I had completely forgotten about this incident last year. How could I have forgotten someone who had an embarrassingly amusing approach to doling out the love?

That form letter is hilarious, but shouldn’t you blot out portions of it. You never know who is reading your site. It makes me nervous (for you).

IMPROV NIGHT

So The Hip Replacements had an interesting show tonight after a year and a half of not having shows. We were sloppy, slow to cut, confusing, and disjointed, but we also had moments of funny, funny, funny. Getting to be Fitten’s Stephen Hawking voice was a dream come true! And I will cherish forever getting to be a baby cow and George Foreman being ground up in a meat grinder and killed by a George Foreman grill, respectively. (Though I realized I made George get ground up and not sizzled. Oops!) We all had fun and were incredibly creative.

Oh, but we didn’t win. No, the other team was great. They did a set that was a model of excellence. Okay, they got creepy with a child molestation skit, but when one of the team members said out loud how uncomfortable she was with it, they were off onto other things.

They won for the 15th week in a row.

Improv is part of me, and I miss it. Sadly, though, all the slots were taken up for the new team auditions this weekend. I will have to get in on the next round. I have to.

After the show, hanging out in front of the theater with some folks, a cute girl came up to me. “Excuse me,” she said. “I’m in awe of you.”

Uh, well, what do you say to something like that?

“Really?”

“Yes. I’m in love with you and would have your children.”

Then I said something lame like, “Oh, wow! Then that would give me twelve or thirteen!”

She then introduced herself–I have, of course, forgotten her name because I always do that–and I introduced myself. We shook hands. Then she went away.

It was fascinating. She was not creepy or weird about it. It was… FASCINATING! Fitten and Ron joked that I don’t have to do anything. They just come up to me. If they only knew how not true that was! And after having a sorta semi-date (maybe?) before the show with an IO guy…

Yes, it was a good night. Weird, but definitely good.

I love this site. I don’t know why - perhaps it’s because the owner has a more interesting life than I do, is better looking than I am, and can use big words such as "Ebullience" at the drop of a hat. The movie reviews are quite nice as well. Keep up the good work. I tell all of my friends to check out your site - and she did….
