I sent an e-mail tonight to a recruiter from Visa telling her to take my name out of contention for a director-level job with the company in San Francisco.
It’s funny how easy it is to get fixated on something — for me, it’s that I’m not at the level or at the salary I think I should be. But after thinking about it a long time, I realized that I should be really grateful to have the job that I’m in — it’s one I love, despite the headaches it may cause, and one that I was thrilled to get. I should see it through to the end. And, really, there’s not much better than working on “Star Wars” and getting the chance to travel as much as I do. I’d love to have a bigger salary and a better title, but I suppose it’s the trade-off I make!
Sigh. Why can’t anything be easy?
Steve Expounded Thusly:
I heard Lucas is moving to The Presidio. Does that include your unit as well, or is it others? Is all of Lucsfilm moving there? The radio story was so brief as to be useless!
Regardless, sometimes money and position do not come first. If you are enjoying your job, stay at it. Few people like what they do, so it’s good to hold on. I mean, really, maybe you do deserve a better position and scads of cash, but in the end that’s all just surface crap anyway. Being happy comes first.
JJS Expounded Thusly:
Yes, we’re set to move late next year. Amazing how fast word gets around — especially for something that, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t tremendously important. What it means for me is that if I stay much longer than late summer, I’ll be facing a minimum hourlong commute to and from work each day. Rush-hour traffic up here (where there is ONE freeway) makes the 405 at 8:15 a.m. look like a walk in the park.
We’ll see what happens.
I appreciate your words, though, and take them to heart!
Steve Expounded Thusly:
Ugh! Well, good luck. Since I’ve been driving in traffic that sucks for 10 years (though rarely if EVER an hour), I commiserate and suggest the train.
THE TRAIN! Ha! Can you believe I just said that? What did I think, you’re moving to EUROPE? HA!
John Expounded Thusly:
Goof. There’s no train here! Just a lot of rich people who insist that something as base as the train would bring “the wrong element” into our communities.
Sorry, I ain't takin' no comments on this page. Deal, y'hear?
