Tonight’s the night. Jeff and I are going to start on our big experiment: Two nights a week with the TV off the entire night. Sounds simple. We’ll see. We need to be less reliant on prerecorded entertainment. No TV programs. No DVDs. No VHS (like we ever did that anyway). No TiVo. Just each other.

Yikes.

Are we ready for that?!

Good luck! Having been off TV now for over a year, I can say you really end up not missing it. Yeah, sometimes when the conversation of cohorts and chums turns to the previous night’s episode of Lost, there’s a small pang of curiosity and of loss, but that passes very quickly.

And, hey, if you get sick of each other, you can always read a nice book. Like Steve Martin’s “The Pleasure of My Company.”

Sorry, Steve, but I will never be able to give up The Amazing Race or now Lost and Desperate Housewives. Perhaps you should consider a modicum of televised entertainment to augment your literary pursuits?

What I’m really worried about is this scenario: Having given up TV, we realize we have more time on my hands than ever before and decide to paint the house. Can you imagine something like that?!

You snarky S.O.B.!

Well, I have to say that having a beautifully-, freshly-painted living space has been worth not watching The West Wing. Although I did watch 4 DVDs last weekend! So I do have my media viewing habits. The 4 last weekend were pent-up demand after not watcing much of anything at all for weeks and weeks.

I think no TV is an admirable thing – 2 nights or no niggts. I am impressed with you both (or three counting Jeff). TV truly is a vast wasteland (except for Desperate Houswives…and Bewitched reruns).
