The NSA only has our public safety at heart! I think they should be allowed to do whatever they want to keep me safe from harm. They can even water board my friends and family, even me, if it will help win the War on Terror.®

Reading what some might call an excellent article at Ars Technica, I am outraged that anyone would deny that our government or the telco companies have our best interests at heart! And certainly once a full-fledged domestic warrantless wiretapping program is in place, I feel confident that it will only ever be used for good and never misused in any way, even in the future!

I think all the people who are stirring up the sand on this should be thrown in jail indefinitely without charges being filed or any access to lawyers, because these people are just as bad as the terrorists! They are traitors!

Aaahhhhh…satire.

But seriously though, something does need to be done. Of course, I’m talking about the fact that I am forced to do math before I can post a comment here.

I had to take a long hard think about what 5 plus 7 equals. And I came to these conclusions: 1) I am dumb. and 2) 5 + 7 = I hate math!

While math may blow, spam blows more, and until I truly find some better method, I have so far discovered that two numbers-related exams to get through stops spam dead. So far. And anyone who’s logged in will not get the math box, though the login process itself is also cumbersome.

Regardless, I had hoped it would be a minor annoyance, and…

Oops! I realized I should be writing this in a more satirical tone. *AHEM!*

While I love spam, I found I had to implement two separate numbers-based dialog boxes to weed out the annoying comments by people with something to say. I do not work long and hard on my posts in this blog to have my views questioned and maligned by people who have nothing better to do than malign and question my posts, on which I work hard and long. People with something to say are annoying, and I have to filter them away with protections. I do miss the spam!

There. Sarcasm AND a verbal fugue. I hope this makes up for the inconvenience of the new math security box.

I just got 5 + 5! That one was easy! You’re right. Spam sucks. And I should really use this opportunity to sharpen my horrendous math skills.

If you end up getting a lot of comments in the future, it’s just me checking to see if I got the answer right.

P.S. The answer is 10!

Oops. Once again, I misspoke. That was not a verbal fugue. It was some kind of palindrome.

THanks to my own brain for pointing this out 10 days late.

[…] So typing in that annoying code before posting a comment was a pain in the ass part of the body. In fact, it was not enough to stop spam, so not long ago I added a vaguely fun (or not, for some people) math entry plug-in as well. Both of those, together, were enough to stop all the spam I was getting. […]
